Second Call

Second Call is a non-profit organization created for the purpose of maintaining the health and welfare of race horses long after their racing days are done. When a horse enters Second Call, they are permanently retired; however, they still have a long life ahead and plenty of love to give. Second Call places retired racing horses in foster and adoptive homes where they will be given a new job or ‘second career’ that matches their personality.

Before horses in Second Call are put up for adoption, they will have graduated from Foster Care. During the Foster Care program, horses are fully rehabilitated and have received a clean bill of health. They may also have been retrained during this time as hunters, jumpers, or regular trail-ride animals. Additionally, several Second Call graduates are currently working in the Phoenix and Tempe Police Forces.
