OH: Trainer Balo Reaches Career Milestone

Blood-Horse

Midwest trainer Jerry Balo reached a significant career milestone July 12 when Go Patti Wagon captured the third race at Belterra Park.

The New York-bred Silver Wagon colt represents the 1,000th winner for Balo, according to Equibase Co., which began keeping detailed racing statistics in 1976.

Since that time, runners trained by Balo have finished second in 824 races and third in 760. His 5,861 starters have amassed more than $5.1 million in purse earnings.

Three-year-old Go Patti Wagon, owned by Sherri Balo-Williams, won the one mile maiden claiming race by a half-length as the 7-5 favorite in a field eight.

Balo’s record includes 16 stakes victories, 11 of which were with Rollin On Over (by Brent’s Prince), 1983 Ohio-bred horse of the year, whom he also bred.
