Teenager with Regressive Autism Enjoys VIP Experience at Kentucky Derby Thanks to Charlotte-Area Non-Profit

Sixteen-year-old Ty, who “loves to be around horses and would love to see them run fast,” lives with regressive autism, meaning that he is non-verbal. Even though Ty is non-verbal, he found an instant connection to horses through equine therapy. Being around horses has helped to calm Ty and ease his anxiety. It has also given him the opportunity to use physical communication to connect with animals, which has been an incredibly positive experience for Ty.

Living with non-verbal autism is a daily struggle for a number of reasons, but especially because Ty often struggles in social situations, according to his mother. Ty loves his time in equine therapy so much, that you can often find him lying on the horses after sessions are over.

Last week, Dream On 3 flew Ty and his family by private jet to Louisville, Kentucky, where they enjoyed four days of non-stop fun at the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs thanks to Dream sponsor, Quint Events. During their time in Louisville, the family spent two full days at Churchill Downs. On Friday, transportation took the family to the track to enjoy Kentucky Oaks Day, with an all-inclusive ticket package. On Saturday, the family enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the paddock as well as another day of all-inclusive fun at the track.
