Track surfaces expert Mick Peterson, multiple Eclipse Award-winning journalist Jennie Rees and renowned equine orthopedic researcher and surgeon Dr. Wayne McIlwraith are among the featured speakers at this year’s 15th annual Track Superintendents and Arena Managers Field Day Presented by John Deere, set for June 12-14, 2016, at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino in Shelbyville, Indiana.

Last year’s Field Day attracted more than 100 participants from around the world representing Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse and Standardbred racetracks and other associated facilities.

Other speakers include Dr. Cale Bigelow, a turf expert from Purdue University; Steve Keating, sales and leadership guru; and Steve Koch, executive director of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) Safety & Integrity Alliance. Several of Indiana Grand’s racing executives also will address the conference, along with the track’s popular racing analyst, Rachel McLaughlin.

“The conference is about exchanging ideas to take home and reapply to your own program,” said Indiana Grand Track Superintendent Roy Smith, who organized the inaugural Field Day at Philadelphia Park in 2002. “I’ve never left these meetings without taking something home.”

Field Day participants earn credit for the Safety Training and Continuing Education component of the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance Code of Standards. The agenda consists of workshops and presentations on the latest technologies affecting track maintenance. Other activities include an evening of dinner and live racing at Indiana Grand on June 13 and an evening of dinner and live Standardbred racing at nearby Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on June 14.
