Dr. Tom Brokken is the senior partner in Tiegland, Franklin & Brokken DVM’s P.A. which has 16 veterinarians on staff who cover all of the Florida Thoroughbred tracks as well as Delaware Park, Fair Hill Training Center and Saratoga Race Course. Dr. Brokken has been a practicing veterinarian for over 40 years, and is a past President of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP).

You Make the Call Forum

This sequel to the session at Oaklawn Park will again look at the jurisdictional differences in the rules that stewards must use and enforce concerning the running of the race and expands the discussion to the importance of communication and the horsemen’s knowledge of the rules in the jurisdiction in which he’s racing. This will be an interactive session with video replays for discussion.

Trainer Continuing Education Forum

This forum is designed to provide the audience: (1) with an overview of the history of the Model Rule regarding Continuing Education and what the Model Rule hopes to achieve, (2) a discussion and presentation of currently available (and in development) Continuing Education “classes”, (3) a discussion of how this Model Rule has been implemented (good and bad points) in Indiana where the Model Rule has been formally adopted, and (4) a discussion of how this Model Rule has been implemented (good and bad points) in Washington where it has been informally adopted. Audience members are encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback to the panel regarding the issue of trainer continuing education in particular and subjects for continuing education.
