Statement from the National HBPA on HBO’s “Real Sports” Segment on Horse Racing

Statement from the National HBPA on HBO’s “Real Sports” Segment on Horse Racing:

“I am extremely frustrated with HBO’s ‘Real Sports’ program that aired a despicable, one-sided and inaccurate view of the horse racing industry. Everyone involved in horse racing should be appalled that the producers broadcast a segment without any acknowledgment of the significant progress we have made regarding the safety, welfare and aftercare of equine athletes, nor did they mention the safety measures we have implemented that focus on our human athletes. Our industry demands the highest degree of safety and integrity, and that’s coming from our stakeholders. Our participants are constantly and relentlessly working to provide a safer environment. HBO sadly and shamelessly chose to ignore the actual facts.”
