“The Truth About Lasix”

On the heels of an expensive campaign of misinformation about Lasix/furosemide, this panel will review in detail the scientific, veterinary, legal, industry related and a number of other common sense issues concerning the benefits of furosemide for the racing horse, the rider, and the industry at large.

Panelists:
Dr. James Casey
Dr. Casey achieved his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree from Tuskegee University in Alabama, 1988. Dr. Casey is also a graduate James Madison University in Virginia. He earned a Masters of Science Degree, as well as Bachelor of Science Degrees with studies in Biology and Chemistry. In 1988, Dr. Casey established his practice, Equine Sports Medicine and Dentistry. His veterinary specialty interests include: lameness problems, pre-purchase examinations, and the comprehensive care of Performance and Racing Horses.

F. Thomas Conway
Mr. Conway is a sole practitioner focusing mainly on litigation practice in personal injury, products liability and medical malpractice. He has practiced law for over 45 years. Mr. Conway is a licensed Thoroughbred owner and breeder and serves as a Commission Member for the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. He presently has eight horses on the track, four mares, and two weanlings at Waymore Farm in KY.

Maggi Moss
Moss grew up riding in hunter-jumper shows and won three straight national championships at Madison Square Garden in New York. She has been just as successful as a thoroughbred owner, leading the nation in victories since 2004 with more than 1,400 wins. Moss led the nation in victories in 2006 and was second in 2007 and 2008. She was one of three finalists for the Eclipse Award as the nation’s leading owner in 2007. She has been Prairie Meadows’ leading owner 10 times since 2000 and was inducted into the track’s Hall of Fame in 2010.

Dick Powell
Dick Powell, a life-long horse racing fan, has worked professionally in the business since 1988. His horse racing consultant business handles business and legislative issues. He is an acknowledged expert on domestic and international simulcasting, account wagering, player rewards and incentives, gaming at racetracks and fan education.

Stephen J. Selway, D.V.M., PA
Dr. Selway is a racetrack surgeon and has had a medical practice for over 35 years.

Securing & Protecting Purse Money
Funded by Alternative Gaming

After securing a contribution to purses from alternative gaming it is important to protect the contribution in the future. It appears the biggest problem is the state government wanting to reduce contributions to purses and breed funds and re-directing some or all of the contribution to fill holes in the state budget.
